The Handsome Monkey King
THe Visual Edition
The first visual edition of a work featured in Behemoth archives in the first issue. The twelve page zine features work from Scott Knoll, Valentino Di Pietro Hernandez, Tori De La Torre, showcasing Michael Steiner’s epic poem The Handsome Monkey King.
Originally published in Behemoth’s magazines debut first issue, The Handsome Monkey King is an epic folkloric poem from poet and contributing editor Michael Steiner.
Drawing from the Mythology and imaginative world of Journey to the West, Steiner’s work presented the editorial team to revisit the work as a visual piece. The result is a new visual edition of The Handsome Monkey King, combining the poem with aesthetics of field notes, traditional pen sketches, photography.
The Handsome Monkey: Visual Edition will debut in Art in the Garden event hosted by Fresno’s Shinzen Garden.
Neon Claws was created for the 2025 Cat Zine Fest presented by the Cool Cat Collective for the benefit of the non-profit organization Tipped Ears. Since it’s debut, Behemoth Magazine has been donating a portion of the proceeds sold from the zine at events participated by Behemoth to continue to donate to the organization in belief of their loving cause.
